Strato M Quick Start Guide

Setting Up the Movie Player

Strato M Rear Panel

  1. Connect the wired network. Use an unshielded Cat5e cable or better. A Gigabit connection is required.

If wired network is unavailable, consider a Wi-Fi bridge or powerline/coax adapters when operating this player standalone (not connected to a server).

  2. Use a High Speed HDMI cable, or better, to the A/V system.
  3. Connect the power supply. A surge protector is recommended. Please wait for the Strato M to start.
  4. Follow the onscreen instructions and confirm your network settings. Choose Continue.
  5. If installing without a server:
Choose Set up this player as a standalone player. Choose Begin activation.
The email used to activate your account will receive all communications from Kaleidescape. If applicable, use your current Kaleidescape account email so your library can be downloaded to this new system.
If you don’t receive a verification email within a few minutes, check your spam.
(OR) If grouping with existing Terra server(s): choose Add this player as a new zone... select the system to join.
(OR) If grouping with new Terra server(s): choose Set up this player as a new system... and follow the onscreen instructions.

If your Terra servers do not appear on the Strato M Join System screen, ensure their software version is 10.20.0 or higher, and that they are on the same network subnet as the Strato M.

For Best A/V Experience

HDMI Cables for the best and most reliable experience:

  • Use HDMI 2.1 Ultra High Speed cables. Don’t pinch or fold.
  • Use a low-gauge cable, like 24AWG or lower for the video conductors.
  • Use a double-shielded cable, tested to at least 20Gbps.
  • Use active cables when lengths beyond 15’ (5m) are needed.
  • When using an active cable, or balun, ensure a minimum 10.2Gbps bandwidth without compression. Obey the bend rules for the cable.

Routing the Audio: Connect HDMI directly to the audio equipment and pass the video through to the display, or use eARC from the display to the audio equipment. Standard ARC audio connections will degrade/compress the audio.

Avoid shielded Ethernet cables; they will couple the noisy network ground planes to the A/V equipment.

Keep the network cable length to 10’ (3m) or less. If longer is required, insert a network switch between the player and long cable. This will reduce electrical noise and protect against damaging surges.

Verify the audio and video signal outputs using the Show audio and video capabilities and status buttons found in the player’s Settings pop-up window. Or, from a device that is connected to the same network as your Strato M, enter http://my-kaleidescape.local and click Settings of the appropriate player.

Calibrate your display using the PictureCheck and ISF titles found in the “Special Interest” genre of the Kaleidescape store. See the link for more: https://www.kaleidescape.com/pdfs/kaleidescape-picturecheck.pdf
