A: An agreement with the DVD Copy Control Association states systems sold by Kaleidescape on or after November 30, 2014 will not be able to import CSS-protected DVDs. However, systems may catalog CSS-protected DVDs and those in Store supported territories may take advantage of Kaleidescape’s Disc-to-Digital offers to download electronic versions of the same movies and achieve the same disc-free Kaleidescape experience.
Systems sold by Kaleidescape before November 30, 2014 will still be able to import CSS-protected DVDs.
Systems sold by Kaleidescape on or after November 30, 2014 will continue to be able to play a DVD directly from the physical disc, which provides all of the playback advantages of imported content, including start of playback at the beginning of the feature, or jumping to a favorite scene or song.
Q: What is a CSS-protected DVD?
A: A CSS-protected DVD is one that has Content Scramble System copy-protection technology. Most commercial DVDs are CSS-protected.
CSS is the protection system that has enabled the owners of movie content to provide consumers access to high quality DVD movies for home viewing on their video systems and computers. CSS is made available to allow product manufacturers to offer products for consumers to use to enjoy motion pictures on DVDs while also protecting them from unauthorized duplication and from infringement of the intellectual property contributed by the many writers, directors, actors and producers who create such works.
Q: Why is there unplayable DVD content on my system?
A: Multi-server systems containing one or more servers sold before November 30, 2014 will be permitted to import CSS-protected DVDs to any server in the system (including server(s) purchased after November 30, 2014). If this system is split (for resale, etc.) any servers which cannot import DVDs (sold on or after November 30, 2014) with CSS-protected DVD content will then be prevented from importing or playing imported CSS-protected DVDs. In this case, the protected content should be deleted and the original DVD should be cataloged.

Q: Can Kaleidescape Systems sold on or after November 30, 2014 import CSS-protected DVDs?
