Since 1969, Leonard Maltin has been editing the influential Leonard Maltin's Movie Guide, which appears annually, and he currently hosts the television show Maltin on Movies. Now Leonard shares his film expertise with our customers so that they can discover and collect underappreciated gems and lost treasures of cinematic history. Kaleidescape is proud to present video introductions in which Leonard shares his thoughts, personal anecdotes, and behind-the-scenes tidbits about the movies in the new Kaleidescape Collection Leonard Maltin Recommends.
For example, in one video introduction, Leonard explains that he chose Living in a Big Way - one of Gene Kelly's rare commercial flops - because it contains two of Kelly's most masterful dance performances. And of course, these are bookmarked on the Kaleidescape System so you can jump right to them. In another, Leonard tells the story of the 1902 short, A Trip to the Moon by Georges Méliès, the subject of Martin Scorsese's Hugo. Remarkably, this was originally available in a color print as well as in black and white. The color version was considered lost but French film archivists ambitiously restored a recently discovered heavily damaged copy. Now you can experience color as it was originally done: with each frame painstakingly hand-colored.
